4 Ways To Replenish Your Skin

4 Ways To Replenish Your Skin

Looking beautiful starts with clear, smooth, glowing skin. There is no amount of makeup that could mimic the real thing. In fact, let’s think of makeup as a tool to enhance your appearance and not covering flaws.

Your skin, being the biggest organ in your body, is the first line of defense against yucky stuff from the environment like toxins and bacteria. So it’s also one of the first things on your body to show what’s going on in your body. When it’s breaking out or looking dull, it might mean you have too much stress, inflammation, too little sleep and been eating too much processed food etc. — you get the picture.

Nutrition and good digestion are keys to good skin so beauty truly starts from the inside. Here are a few simple tips on how to keep your skin youthful and glowing for years to come.

#1 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Your body needs enough water to sweat and eliminate through your bowels — that’s how toxins exit your body. Make sure you check in those requisite seven to eight glasses of water a day.

If you get bored of plain water, make it interesting with fruit infusions, or add a little Sparkle for a citrusy beverage with skin-glowing collagen peptides. Or get into decaf herbal teas for a more flavorsome experience.

Having trouble remembering how much you have to drink? Tote around a 16 oz water bottle and make sure you have four of those a day. Or note it down on a piece of paper pinned to your fridge or use a daily water log app on your phone to keep track. Do not count caffeinated beverages as they are diuretic and not really hydrating.

#2 Load up on healthy fats

Healthy fats like avocado, coconut oil, chia seeds, flax are have high levels of omega-3 fatty acids and they help plump up the skin, by reducing inflammation and providing the building blocks for healthy skin cells.

If you find it challenging adding these foods to your diet, you can throw easily throw them into a smoothie and get your daily dose of skin-plumping omega-3s.

#3 Add more antioxidants to your diet

You know these babies neutralize and help eliminate wrinkle-causing free radicals from the body. Where do you get antioxidants from? Brightly colored produce! So eat the colors of the rainbow.

We recommend getting at least five servings of fresh fruit and veggies a day — lean more heavily on the vegetables because you don’t want to overdo sugar (yes, fructose in fruit is still sugar!).

#4 Eat less sugar

Sugar causes wrinkles and that is a fact. When you consume sugar, it attacks collagen and elastin, the protein fibers that keep skin firm and elastic, and cause them to become stiff and malformed. This means your skin loses its suppleness and becomes saggy and wrinkled.

WHO just revised their sugar intake guidelines for a normal weight adult to be 25 grams of sugar or six teaspoons a day.

There are hidden sugars in the food we encounter daily and our best tip is to avoid refined, processed foods, read labels, and learn to appreciate a less sugary existence.

You can’t go wrong with eating fresh food, whole grains, and good quality proteins. Not only would you find your skin improving, you can also have more control over weight issues and feel more energetic.
