DIY Moisturizing Hair Mask

DIY Moisturizing Hair Mask

Is your hair feeling dry and dehydrated? If you don’t want to deal with silicones and chemical-filled commercial hair masks, you can make your own hair mask at home with just two ingredients to put the shine and softness back in your tresses.

If you have a dry, itchy scalp that suffers from redness and dandruff, coconut oil can help soothe it.

Coconut oil has great moisture retaining power so it helps your hair remain moist and soft, which also means it’s less prone to damage and breakage. Use this mask once or twice a week for maximum results.

Directions:

  • First, gently melt some coconut oil (if it’s cold, coconut oil becomes a solid, but if it’s hot, it’ll be a liquid so no heating required). Pour a bit of water into a pot and bring it to a boil. Put two heaping tablespoons of coconut oil into a small bowl and then place it in the pot of boiled water. The coconut oil should melt fairly quickly.
  • Mash an avocado into a paste. Put the melted coconut oil and avocado into a food processor and blend it.
  • Work the mask into your hair from root to tip and remember to massage it into your scalp. Leave it on as a pre-wash conditioner and then rinse off with warm water. Shampoo and condition as per normal.

Tip: If you are concerned about the avocado clogging your bathtub or shower, remember to use a strainer, or if you don’t have one, place a small hand towel over the drainage hole.
